Native deciduous woody clump-like shrub, grows to a height of 8’ to 10’ high. It likes open areas and is not shade tolerant, therefore doesn't grow under thick forest canopies. Nutritional, fast-growing, and fuss-free. Mid to early summer brings white flower clusters with black-purple berries in fall. Full sun to part shade. Moist, slightly acidic soil that is well-drained.
Wildlife favorite. Also makes excellent wine & jelly. Berries must be cooked for human consumption. Vitamin A & C! Great for the for CSP Program. Potted variety will be picked up in the Fall.
