Grows to a height of approx. 13'. It likes open areas and is not shade tolerant, therefore doesn't grow under thick forest canopies. It is usually found in deciduous swamps, floodplains, bottomlands, and stream banks on moist but well drained soils. It isa consistent seed producer every year and excellent wildlife food.
