Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is our natural resource conservation programs help people reduce soil erosion, enhance water supplies, improve water quality, increase wildlife habitat, and reduce damage caused by floods and other natural disasters.

Mike Van Wyk - District Conservationist
Mike is the District Conservationist for the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) located in Gladstone. He and his staff serve Delta and Schoolcraft counties. Working hand in hand with our conservation district partners, NRCS provides our nation’s farmers, ranchers and forestland owners with the knowledge and tools they need to conserve, maintain and restore the natural resources on their lands and improve the health of their operations for the future. NRCS offers this assistance at no cost to the producers we serve. Our goal is to give our customers personalized advice and information to help them make informed decisions.

Katie Mumford - Soil Conservationist
Katie was born in Appleton, Wisconsin and grew up spending a lot of time in the woods and on lakes in Northern Wisconsin. she graduated with a degree in Natural Resources from Northland College with an emphasis on Ecological Restoration. In 2016, Katie moved out west where she started her career first with Conservation Districts, and then with the Natural Resources Conservation Service. She spent a lot of time working with farmers and ranchers on the rangelands in Montana. Katie moved back to the Midwest in June of 2024 and have since enjoyed working in the forestlands of the UP. In her free time, she can be found attending any live music shows, spending time outdoors, or cheering on the Green Bay Packers.

Dan Blair - Soil Conservationist
Dan works as a Soil Conservationist in the Gladstone NRCS Office and has been with the agency since 2022. Dan helps administer programs under the Farm Bill and works with landowners to promote and enhance conservation on private land. He previously worked at a Conservation District and wrote/maintained grants to implement projects on a watershed level. Dan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Management from Lake Superior State University. He is a native to Delta County and enjoys anything outdoors.

Haley Van Huis - CTAI Conservationist
Haley graduated from Tennessee Technological University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries Management, concentrating in Conservation Biology. After graduating, she moved to Marquette, where she enjoys rock climbing, mountain biking and skiing. Her other pastime is spent on birding and looking for Lake Superior beach glass with her dog, Cowboy. Haley grew up in Holland, Michigan, so she is familiar with the Great Lakes region but eager to immerse herself in the more northern climate of the Upper Peninsula”.
